My family and I recently formed People Against Impaired Drivers following the needless death of my 11-year-old daughter, Cady Tucker, when a driver impaired by having only one hand and the bad judgment to drive a car that was not handicapped equipped in violation of her driver's license despite that impairment, crossed the center line of a two-lane highway in Montana and caused a horrific head-on collision and three-car pile-up.  This happened at 4 p.m. on August 15th, 2002, just two weeks before Cady was to begin sixth grade.  Cady was an impassioned, talented classical guitarist, budding artist, track champion, and voracious reader who had dreams of being a fashion designer in New York City.  As every child does, Cady deserved to try to fulfill her dreams.  Instead, this head-on obliterated my family and transformed our lives into a personal holocaust because of the devastation of having Cady needlessly taken from us.  The driver was never charged with any crime, nor even given a traffic citation.

Organization Goals

Our organization's main goals are:
  • To encourage safe and responsible driving
  • To protest drivers who cause fatalities not being charged
  • To encourage legislative reform so that drivers with a history of being unfit to drive for medical or other reasons are not given a driver's license, and holding drivers accountable for their actions when they disregard the safety of others by choosing to drive while impaired and kill or permanently maim another person.

Currently, our 501c(3) nonprofit status is pending and is anticipated to be approved very soon.

Our Inspiration

Each member of PAID has been inspired into activism because of living with the tragic, needless loss of someone very close in a hignway crash caused by an impaired driver.
